The application of a tattoo is a health related process, and the result lasts for life.

Don't be in a rush.

Take your time, become an educated consumer.

Compare local studios for service, quality of artwork, professionalism, and value for your hard earned money.

Make a decision you will be happy with, and can, quite literally, 'live with'.

Most good artist's are generally in demand, you will most likely have to set up an appointment.

Be warey of studios trying to talk you 'into the seat' right away. There's probably a reason they are NOT busy.

Examine photo's of previous work by the artist, paying close attention to the technical and asthetic qualities of each piece, rather than the actual design.

A good portfolio will have a variety of both large and small tattoos. Not everyone wants a bigger piece.

On smaller tattoos it is much harder to hide mistakes such as linework inconsistencies, dimensional inaccuracies, etc.
